Vestas workers on the Isle of Wight recently occupied their factory to save Britain's only wind-turbine blade manufacturer. Their high profile struggle has successfully demonstrated the urgent need for 'green jobs' and for alternative energy sources, and has inspired people all over the UK and world to speak out and take action.
The Government has recently recognised that there needs to be massive investment to create a low carbon economy if we are to avoid catastrophic climate change. But the highly profitable Vestas Corporation want to close down the factory. In response the workers are demanding it be nationalised. Info: savevestas.wordpress.com
The fight goes on for a massive increase in green jobs and renewable energy
Although they were forced by bailiffs to end their 18-day occupation last Friday they are now picketing the factory 24/7, along with many trade unionists and climate activists. A rooftop protest/occupation of a nearby Vestas factory continues. Today’s UK-wide day of action is calling for:
the rapid expansion of renewable energy sources and green jobs
workers and communities to work together to achieve a just transition to a green, low carbon society
OUR JOBS * OUR COMMUNITIES
OUR PLANET * OUR FUTURE
together we can make the changes we need
OUR PLANET * OUR FUTURE
