South Tottenham goes green!

More than 400 residents attended a SOUTH TOTTENHAM GOING GREEN event on Saturday 27 June at Chestnuts Community Centre.

There were a wide range of stalls and activities, including information on recycling, food growing and energy usage and an African drumming workshop and performance; plus bring and buy plants/seeds/books, fair trade, locally grown, home cooked, organic and vegan foods.

Organised by and for local residents the new South Tottenham Going Green network is working to promote local community and environmental action.

Network member Ibilola Campbell, of Tiverton Estate, said "We were pleased to see so many people from all around our area coming together to share their views and learn from each other. Together we need to do all we can to care for our communities and environment."

Dr Bike was on hand for free bike repairs and for children there were green films,
a craft workshop and making books out of recycled materials as well as a craft sale.

Information on planning and development was available, along with a wishing tree for ideas on how South Tottenham could be transformed into a friendlier, greener and more sustainable area.

As a result of this success the Network are inviting local residents to join them for a community picnic in Chestnuts Park on Sunday July 19th, 1-3pm as part of the national 'Big Lunch' day of local events.

This will be one of the thousands of events all over the country encouraging people to meet up and share food in public spaces, and takes place near the children’s playground - please bring food & games.

The South Tottenham Going Green network are local residents involved in a number of community groups, and supported by the Sustainable Haringey network.
